Vice President - Ricky Nelson

Ricky has been employed with the Maricopa County Juvenile Court Center for 16 years. He has been a Juvenile Probation Officer for 13 of those years and is currently a manager at the Durango Detention Facility. Ricky joined AZPOA as soon as he heard about it and has been recruiting others from the moment he joined. Since it’s inception, he has served on the executive board of AZPOA. Ricky was elected Co-Vice President in 2005. Ricky believes that officers needed to have a voice in their workplace and someone to care about their welfare. Early in his career, he watched unfair practices and terminations without any regard to the families impacted. Ricky likes being a part of the process of assuring fair, respectable, and consistent practices within the department. He also realized, early on, that he would probably starve to death if officers didn't get organized and speak up for themselves. Ricky’s desire to help people is a driving force behind his commitment to the association.
