AZPOA Women's Committee

Communication Workers of America (CWA) began a Women’s Committee in 1984.  There is a yearly conference to mentor new leaders, cultivate the diverse membership, discuss legislation and litigation and continue the battle for pay equity for women.  The CWA National Women’s Committee encourages all female union members to be a part of their local women’s committee.  AZPOA Treasurer Eva Berg and executive board member Rebekah Trexler attended the 2009 National Women’s Conference held in St. Louis, Missouri from September 10 until September 12, 2009 for District 7, local 7077.

One of the workshops discussed how to build an effective local women’s committee and Eva and I came away from the discussion “all fired up and ready to go!”  We kicked off the AZPOA Women’s Committee at the fall picnic with a registration table.  A wrap-a-thon will be held Monday, December 21, 2009 to raise funds for the annual union  member scholarships and to collect canned goods for St. Mary’s Food Bank.   A recruitment tea party will be held in early 2010.  The national committee encourages each local committee to affiliate with a Dress for Success group in their vicinity.  The CWA and Dress for Success are two organizations with the same goal…the empowerment of women.  Won’t you join with us as a founding member of the AZPOA Women’s Committee?  Contact Rebekah Trexler or Eva Berg for more information.
